Bolderfall Pass is a two-area section of the world map that stretches along the west side of the town of Bolderfall, where Therion begins his journey. At your earliest you'll come across Bolderfall Pass if you begin the game as Therion, so this little guide will assume that you're starting out from Bolderfall itself.
Unsurprisingly, there are monsters guarding Bolderfall Pass. You'll run into the following beasties in both sections of Bolderfall Pass:
- Cliff Birdian I - Weak to Sword, Polearm, Axe, and Light. Pretty standard melee fighter that can use Wind Slash to inflict a bit more damage. No big deal.
- Cliff Birdian II - Weak to Sword, Polearm, Axe, and Light. A slightly tougher version of Cliff Birdian that can use Speed Boost to buff itself. Only slightly tougher than its lower-level cousin.
- Laughing Hyaena - Weak to Axe, Bow, and Fire. Has a painful Bite attack, and can use Venomous Fang to Poison a character (though this happens pretty rarely).
- Eggling - Weak to Sword, Polearm, and Axe. Surprisingly one of the more dangerous enemies at low levels, as their Body Bash attack gets used often. Stun them quickly with the appropriate weapon.
North Bolderfall Pass
As with every character's starting town, when you first leave Bolderfall you'll see a young man at the side of the road. He's been injured, and needs a Healing Grape. Hand one over and he'll identify himself as Kit. He's on a trip to find his father. Helping him out here will complete the Kit, the Traveler Side Story and earn you 1,500 Leaves. Not a bad start. (And if you don't have a Healing Grape handy, you can find one just by going south and following the path around the cliff a short ways.)
Head north from Kit and you'll reach a crossroads. If you go north you'll find a save point and a path to the West S'warkii Trail. If you want to recruit H'aanit, this path will ultimately take you to the town of S'warkii where her story begins.
If, instead, you choose to go west across the bridge, you'll find a southbound path. As the foreground comes into view you'll see a purple chest up on a ledge. Check along the wall on your left to find a path up to it. Inside are 1,000 Leaves. Keep following the path to the south and you'll reach another split. Walk a little further south to find a chest containing an Olive of Life, and go across the western bridge to find the path to South Borderfall Pass.
South Bolderfall Pass
South of the entrance of South Bolderfall Pass, coming in from the north, is a save point at an intersection. A chest at this intersection contains an Herb of Awakening. The intersection will lead you to three different areas:
- If you go west from the intersection you'll wind up in South Quarrycrest Pass.
- Go south and you'll find a winding path to the West Clearbrook Traverse. Check just off the beaten path as the trail winds east to find a Healing Grape. West Clearbook Traverse will eventually take you to Clearbrook, the home of Alfyn, should you want to recruit him.
- Go east and you'll cross a bridge to another intersection. Go north and you'll find a dead end cliff, atop which is a chest containing a Wind Soulstone. Go south and you'll hit another winding path. Walk onto the southern wooden walkway to find an Inspiriting Plum (M). If you continue south of here you'll wind up down at the water's edge, where you'll find the entrance of the Carrion Caves, a Danger Level 20 dungeon that you shouldn't mess with if you're just starting the game. Once you have a few party members, though, this is a great spot to level.
