Danger Level: 15
Location: West S'warkii Trail, down the right path from the central save point
One of the earliest dungeons you can tackle in Octopath Traveler, the Path of Beasts is, like other Danger Level 15 areas, a great spot for beefing up your team in preparation for the Chapter 2 of any of the characters. It's short, there are some good items, and the enemies won't give you too much trouble. Bring local hunter H'aanit along, as most of the monsters are weak to her bow. Speaking of which:
- Red Fox - Weak to Dagger, Bow, and Staff. Can blind your party members with Blinding Claw, lowering their evasion. Very annoying. Otherwise not a big deal.
- Howler - Weak to Polearm, Bow, and Lightning. Flying enemy that likes Wind attacks and debuffing your characters. Don't show up too often, but are work killing quickly when they do appear.
- Spud Bug - Weak to Sword, Dagger, Fire, and Light. Fairly weak creatures that are quite dangerous in large numbers thanks to Expel Sputum, which hits everyone in the party for 100+ damage. If several of them do this at once you could be in big trouble. Stun them quickly with group attacks.
- Majestic Marmot - Weak to Bow, Staff, and Fire. Appear in large groups and use pretty basic melee attacks. H'aanit's Rain of Arrows will eat through their defenses pretty quickly.
- Wanderweed - Weak to Sword and Fire.
- Giant Boar - Weak to Sword, Bow, and Dark. Hefty enemy that you should stun until there are no other foes on the field. If you fight a group of three - which can happen - use group attacks so they all go down at once. Getting hit by Stampede from three of these in a row can decimate a weaker party.
Just east of the entrance - and a convenient save point is a four-way intersection.
- To the north you'll find another split path. On the left is a chest containing an Inspiriting Plum (M). On the right is a chest containing 4,000 leaves.
- To the south you'll find a short trek to a Tough Nut.
- To the east you'll find a long path that takes you to a pleasant, open area by the water, and... nothing else? Appearances can be deceiving, however. Between the second and third torches from the intersection there is a small path accessible through the rocks on your left. Go through it and you'll find a purple chest. Inside it is a War Lance, which is the best reason for coming through the Path of Beasts.
And... oh, that's all? Okay. If nothing else this place is great for harvesting loads of Essence of Pomegranate for Alfyn, as it drops from the Majestic Marmots a lot. This valuable ingredient is used in Concoctions that boost a character's BP, a useful move in any battle.
