Connecting Cave is an excessively short little area. There are two ways through it. The first is via the cave entrance you passed on Route 7, near the Photo Spot. It leads to a single trainer battle, and then to a dead end. You can't change anything about the dead end until you can use the HM move Strength. The second path through Connecting Cave is on the south end of Route 7, and will take you straight to Route 8. This is the path you want to take. A Scientist inside will heal your Pokémon, which you'll want for the next leg of your trip.

Leave the cave. As you head west Dexio and Sina, Sycamore's two assistants, will interrupt you and upgrade your Pokémon to include Coastal Kalos. Go down the stairs to the left after they leave, loop north and back east, and check the rock at the end of the short path along the cliff. It contains a hidden Super Potion

There are a large number of small ledges in this area that will make it tricky to backtrack. Make your way along the ledges to the west. Head south when you reach the western edge of the cliffs and you'll find an HP Up. South of the cliffs you'll find a grassy patch. Beside it is a trainer. South of here and among some yellow flowers you'll find another trainer.

Rising Star Paulette

Reward: 1,140 P

Rising Star Rhys
  • Pancham, level 15
  • Goldeen, level 17
  • Skiddo, level 17

Carry on south, then take a left at the next grassy patch. You'll find a trainer by the cliff edge. Just past him, near the edge of the cliff, is a hidden Escape Rope. Look one square right and one square down from the western tip of the cliff.

Black Belt Cadoc
  • Machop, level 20
Reward: 960 P

South, past the grass, is a rocky area with stepping stones. Move past them to the left and hop along the second horizontal set to reach a Leaf Stone. Then return to the first set and make your way down to the south. Continue south a short way and, hey, you're suddenly in Ambrette Town.

Ambrette Town is a cliffside settlement dedicated to the study and restoration of Fossils. There are a bunch of Pokémon you can only get here, though not yet. You have somewhere else to visit first. Let's have a look around.
  • Check the right side of the Pokemon Center for a path back to Route 8. It'll lead you to a Heart Scale.
  • Talk to the woman outside the Pokémon Center. She'll give you TM94 Rock Smash. Equip this move on one of your Pokémon and it will be capable of, well, smashing rocks. Inside rocks you'll find items and wild Pokémon.
  • Next to the Pokémon Center is the Aquarium. Talk to the guy in front of the golden Magikarp on the lower level and he'll give you an Old Rod. You can use this for fishing, though the Old Rod won't catch you a whole lot. Keep your eyes peeled for other Fishermen with better Rods.
  • Talk to the guy wandering south of the Pokémon Center. You can trade him a Poké Ball for a Dive Ball. You can make this trade once per day.
  • Enter the house to the left of the Poké Ball trader. The girl inside will ask you for a Pokémon with a high Speed stat. Match or beat her expectations with one of your Pokémon and she'll give you a Health Wing. You can repeat this once a day.
  • Enter the building to the right of the Poké Ball trader. This is the Fossil Lab. Talk to the two scientists on the right side of the building to unlock Route 9, the path to Glittering Cave, which is next door. We'll come back here shortly. For now, just talk to the woman in the gate who's not behind the desk for a Rocky Helmet.
  • Last is the Hotel Ambrette, in the south of town. A woman in the lobby will give you TM96 Nature Power, and Mr. Bonding will be on the second floor with the Sp. Def O-Power. After you're done in the hotel, head outside and check the edge of the cliffs to the south of the Hotel for a hidden X Attack. It's on the bottom-left square, just south of the Hotel entrance.
If you exit the Aquarium via the lower door you'll emerge back on Route 8, down by the beach. This is the path you'll need to take to reach the next important city on your trip, but before we head that way we need to go to Route 9, and the Glittering Caves beyond.

Return Trip - Route 8
  • As you make your way south along the cliffs you'll come to a stone you can push with Strength. Heave it out of your way and you'll find a Water Stone on the other side.
Return Trip - Ambrette Town
  • Inside the Fossil Lab is a Hiker who wants to see a Genesect. If you bring him one he'll give you a Shock Drive, a Burn Drive, a Douse Drive, and a Chill Drive, all items for Genesect to hold.
