Raising and harvesting produce is all well and good, but in Coral Island you should generally strive for the creation of superior products. The quest Local Produce will help you get there. To trigger Local Produce you'll need to have at least met Sam, the owner of Sam's General Store, and sent out multiple shipments of goods. Given Sam's vocation it's likely that you need to send out produce you've grown several times. Eventually Sam will send out a letter asking you to drop by his store.

Head to Sam's General Store. It's open from 9:00 to 17:00 (12:00 to 17:00 on Sunday), every day but Wednesday. Sam will explain the ins and outs of his business, and how expensive it is to import goods. Sam wants you to fill out the local produce section with some high-quality products:

  • 50 bronze-quality vegetables. These include Carrots, Cauliflower, Radishes, Potatoes, Cucumbers, Lettuce, and so forth.
  • 25 bronze-quality fruits. These include Strawberries, Blueberries, Melons, and so forth. You can't grow any Fruit in the Spring at the beginning of the game, so you'll have to wait until Summer to get started on this part of the quest.
Completing Local Produce is largely a matter of time and patience. You'll get enough high-quality vegetables and fruits eventually if you continue to farm, but it'll take a while. That said, you have one valuable tool available to speed up the process: Fertilizer. If sprinkled on tilled soil before you lay down seeds you'll increase the chances that the seeds will be of a superior quality when they're ready to be harvested.

There are two ways to acquire Fertilizer:
  • On the 12th of Spring (or eventually - that's when I got it) you'll receive a letter from the Farmers Guild. It will contain a gift of 15 bags of Fertilizer.
  • Otherwise, you'll need to craft Fertilizer. If you get your Farming Mastery up to the first level, easily accomplished by planting crops and tilling your field, you'll receive the ability to craft Fertilizer I. You can then craft Fertilizer with two parts Compost, retrieved via tilling or a Compost Bin, and one part Sap, which falls out of chopped-down trees.

Mark off the quest once you've fulfilled the requirements to earn your reward and end Local Produce. Note that silver-level quality goods also count towards these requirements, so you don't specifically need bronze-level produce - just anything that's better than the average. Completing Local Produce will unlock a new quest the next day, Animal Produce, that will see you replenishing the stocks of animal-based products in Starlet Town.
