One of many ways to earn a living in Coral Island, Fishing is a relatively relaxing way to spend your time on the island, and can be fairly profitable if you do it a lot. Casting your lure and catching fish is a bit easier in Coral Island than it is in other, similar games, but snagging every fish in the sea nevertheless requires a great deal of patience.
This guide will cover the basics of Fishing in Coral Island, as well as provide a listing of all the fish you can catch, and where. Completing the list in your Journal is going to take a while, so get comfortable.
Fishing Basics
In order to fish you first need to complete the quest Visit the Beach Shack. Doing so will earn you a Basic Fishing Pole, which you can use to go Fishing. No further bait or lures are necessary. (You will learn how to craft Bait early on, but it hasn't been implemented in-game yet.) Come back here later and you can buy an Improved Fishing Pole for 3,700 C, which is a great investment if you want to make the most of Fishing.
Head to the nearest source of water, equip your Fishing Pole, and cast your line out. If you wait long enough you'll see the shadow of a fish approaching your line, and once it grabs hold you'll need to reel it in via a simple minigame. Hold down on the button whenever the fish isn't fighting, then slacken off when it does fight.
The distance to catching the fish is represented via a meter that appears on the screen. Fill the meter to catch the fish. The tension on your line is represented via wiggly lines above and below the meter, and if the tension maxes out the fish will break the line and escape. Pretty simple. More valuable fish will give you more of a fight, though as long as you pay a bit of attention you shouldn't have trouble landing any fish. Buying and using the Improved Fishing Pole will make the whole process even easier.
And that's it! Once you reel the fish all the way to shore you'll have a new item for your inventory. You can then drop your fish in the Shipping Box for sale, give it to others as a gift (generally not recommended), or use it in recipes once you have a kitchen.
Fishing Locations
There are many spots to fish on Coral Island, and you can pull your Fishing Pole out and toss it into virtually any body of water. Which fish you'll catch varies on where you're fishing, the time of day, the weather, and the season. You can fish in the following locations:
- The pools on the edges of your farm
- The pools to the northwest (with the waterwheel) and south (near the Sacred Tree) of your farm
- Outside the Cavern, to the north of your farm
- Inside the Cavern, on the hub floor
- The lake surrounding the Lake Temple, to the northeast of Starlet Town
- The rivers running through Coral Island
- The docks in Starlet Town
- Near the Lookout
- The beach

The Giant Sea Bass is one of the more difficult fish to catch in Coral Island, and will quickly flee if you don't catch it correctly. Start by quickly pulsing your button taps until it stops fighting, then slowly begin reeling it in. From this point it will occasionally swap between fighting and resting, and you'll want to tap while it's fighting and reel while it's resting. Watch the tension line carefully while it's resting and don't let it get too high, or the sudden bout of fighting to come will inevitably break the line.

Easily the most difficult fish to catch - for the moment, anyway - the Hammerhead requires extreme delicacy and patience. It will thrash quite violently in timed waves, performing two rather normal (if violent) thrashes, then easing all the way up to lull you into a sense of security, then performing one very violent thrash.
To catch a Hammerhead you need to reel while it isn't thrashing, which lasts for about three seconds, then ease up until the tension line is almost gone once it begins to fight. Once the tension line is low, start slowly tapping the button to keep the Hammerhead from slipping too far away. When the shark stops thrashing you can immediately go back to reeling it in, stopping when the thrashing begins again. Repeat this process to slowly reel the thing in. Catching a Hammerhead takes a while - especially when you're not used to the timing - but it's primarily a matter of not jumping the gun and taking your time.
