Main Walkthrough

Article is under heavy, ongoing construction.

Stretching alongside some of the earliest sections of the game, South Province (Area Four) is likely one of your first steps into a more advanced section of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. The Pokémon here are just a bit tougher than the stuff you'll encounter fresh out of Mesagoza, and dipping into this area quickly to catch a few can make the earlier quests in the game a fair bit easier. (Assuming, of course, your team can survive the encounters.)

You're most likely to first come across South Province (Area Four) via a path in the southeast of South Province (Area Three), though you can also enter this area via a cave from West Province (Area One).

Areas of Interest
  • Notably, South Province (Area Four) is one of the locations that does not have a Pokémon Center. (Not that I can find, anyway.)
  • In the west of South Province (Area Four) you'll find a cave that leads to West Province (Area One).
  • Along the southern edge of South Province (Area Four) you'll wind up on a series of cliffs adjoining South Province (Area Two). From here you can reach things that you could see earlier in the game, but were too far out of your way.
  • Near the top of a mountain on the east side of South Province (Area Four) you'll find a set of ruins with some Pokémon not found elsewhere in the area.
  • In the far, far south of South Province (Area Four), past a series of pools, is a small beach. You'll find a number of Pokémon here that don't appear elsewhere on the route.

Items and NPCs of Note
  • Near the eastern ramp into South Province (Area Four) from South Province (Area Two) is a hill with several trees on top. Up here you'll find a Rare Candy and TM 036 Rock Tomb.
  • Along the northwestern path towards the western plains there's a small rise in the ground, atop of which is a Calcium.
  • On more or less the border between the plains in the west and the grasslands in the east is a tree with a Rare Candy sitting at its base.
  • Near the waterfall that splits South Province (Area Four) and South Province (Area Six), on the south end of the area, is TM 037 Draining Kiss.
  • The ruins on the mountain in the east of the region have two levels, and on the second is TM 161 Trick Room. You can climb onto the fallen pillar nearby and use it to jump to a broken wall, giving you access to the TM.

Trainers

Iago the Black Belt
  • Falinks, level 19
Location: On the hill down to the lowlands pools in the southwest of the area
Reward: 1,140 P

Gets annoying thanks to its use of Protect. Otherwise, just another Fighting-type.

Matias the Poké Maniac
  • Axew, level 20
Location: Lowland pools in the southwest of the area
Reward: 1,200 P

Axew can put a dent in you, but it's still tiny. Throw out a Fairy-type for an easy win.

Backpacker Jaime
  • Oricorio (Sensu form), level 23
  • Staravia, level 23
  • Slowking, level 25
Location: In the eastern ruins
Reward: 4,000 P

A bit tough. Oricorio folds pretty easily, but Staravia can hit fairly hard and Slowking has bulk to spare. Slowking can also surprise you with Fire Punch. You can dominate all three of them with Electric-type moves.
