The fourth instalment of one of the most popular JRPG franchises of all time, Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen depicts a world in turmoil. Monsters are running rampant, children are being kidnapped en masse, and a mysterious figure named Psaro the Manslayer seemingly has a grudge against humanity. A destined warrior must rise up and face Psaro for the good of humankind... though they won't be alone.
Dragon Quest IV works a little differently from the rest of the series. Although it does still follow a silent protagonist in their struggle against ultimate evil, Dragon Quest IV also places you in the boots of the hero's many companions - well before any of them properly join up to save the world. The game is divided up into chapters, and it isn't until the fifth chapter that everyone meets up and joins forces. Expect to do a lot of adventuring before that happens.
Dragon Quest IV has been remade several times. This guide uses the Nintendo DS version as a point of reference, which covers the same territory as the mobile version of the game. If you're playing the Nintendo version of Dragon Quest IV you may find some differences in navigation, enemy strategies, and amount of content.
