You won't get very far in Princess Maker 2 without money, and the first way you're likely to do it is by giving your daughter a job. Jobs unlock immediately after you begin a new game, and are one of the most common activities you're going to slot into your daughter's schedule. As you get better at the game you'll probably find ways to make money besides jobs, but they're never useless.
This guide lists the various jobs available to your daughter in Princess Maker 2. First, though, we'd best delve into the basics.
Jobs for Beginners
Whenever you're setting up your daughter's schedule for the month you can choose up to three jobs for her to do, from the Work menu. Jobs earn your daughter variable amounts of gold - the amount displayed on each job's button is how much she'll make per day - and raise or lower her stats. All jobs raise her Stress.
Your daughter can perform any listed job. Whether she'll perform the job well or not is another matter. There are two circumstances under which your daughter will botch a job:
- If your daughter doesn't have the appropriate stats to complete the job she may perform poorly during one or more days on the jobsite.
- If your daughter is suffering from a status ailment (delinquent, sick, etc.) she may loaf around and not do her job.
Your daughter will not be paid for any day where she fails to perform to expectations. She will still gain and lose stats while at the job, however, so it isn't a total loss. Stress is usually to blame for poor job performance, so make sure you give your daughter Free Time each month to offset mounting Stress.
The owner of each job will eventually give your daughter a pay raise if she successfully completes enough shifts. Each job has up to four raises. Your daughter's pay tier will not go down if she performs poorly at her job. Note that if your daughter performs well on every day of a shift at a job, she'll receive a 50% pay bonus.
Job Listings
There are fifiteen jobs in total in Princess Maker 2. Six of them are available at the beginning of the game, and the rest are unlocked as your daughter ages.
Housework
Unlocked: Age 10
Pay: 0 G
Required Stats: Stamina / Constitution
Stress: +1 / day
Stat Changes:
- Cooking +
- Cleaning +
- Temperament +
- Sensitivity -
The most basic of jobs, Housework keeps your daughter at home, performing chores. She'll earn no gold, but her Stress boost is relatively low. This is an excellent way to boost your daughter's Cooking early so she can work in the Restaurant, as well as win the Cooking Contest at the Harvest Festival. This is also the only way to boost your daughter's Temperament, which is needed in order to speak to the Queen. A good early-game 'job', even if it earns you no money.
In addition to raising the stats above, performing Housework will improve your daughter's relationship with her father. This can lead to a special ending late in the game where they get married. (She's adopted, so it's... uh... acceptable...?)
Babysitter
Unlocked: Age 10
Pay: 4G / 5G / 6G / 7G / 9G
Required Stats: Stamina / Constitution
Stress: +3 / day
Stat Changes:
- Sensitivity +
- Charisma -
Your daughter works as a babysitter at a local daycare. The earnings are low, and the Stress gain is quite high. Babysitter is only a good choice early on, if you want to raise your daughter's Sensitivity, though there are better options. You probably won't get much use out of this job unless you want to win the Cooking Contest early on and need the Sensitivity boost.
In addition to raising the stats above, Babysitter increases your daughter's Maternal Instinct. This is a hidden stat that affects comments made by your daughter's patron deity at the end of the game, in reference to your daughter's potential role as a mother.
Inn
Unlocked: Age 10
Pay: 8G / 10G / 12G / 14G / 17G
Required Stats: Contitution, Cleaning
Stress: +2 / day
Stat Changes:
- Cleaning +
- Combat Skill -
Your daughter works as a cleaner at a nearby Inn. This is not a particularly useful job, as it doesn't pay a ton and only raises the Cleaning stat. You won't get a ton of use out of the Cleaning stat. Working at the Inn also lowers your daughter's Combat Skill, so you should avoid this job like the plague if you've already begun training her as a warrior.
Farm
Unlocked: Age 10
Pay: 10G / 12G / 14G / 17G / 21G
Required Stats: Stamina / Constitution, Strength
Stress: +3 / day
Stat Changes:
- Stamina / Constitution +
- Strength +
- Refinement -
Your daughter works as a laborer at a Farm. A must-do job if you plan to become an explorer, the Farm is your earliest opportunity to raise your daughter's Stamina / Constitution and Strength. Spend a year or two here, refining your daughter's martial powers and earning gold, then switch her into something else as she gets older. The Refinement hit hurts in her later years. Be careful working at the Farm, as your daughter's Stress levels will soar if you don't give her regular breaks.
Church
Unlocked: Age 10
Pay: 1G / 2G / 3G / 4G / 5G
Required Stats: Stamina / Constitution
Stress: +1 / day
Stat Changes:
- Faith +
- Morality +
- Sin -
Your daughter works at the local Church, cleaning the floors. The Church pays far too little gold to suffice as a money-making machine, but the Faith and Morality boosts come in very handy when warding off status ailments. Working at the Church is also an easy way to dispel any Sin you accrue from killing monsters on excursions.
Restaurant
Unlocked: Age 10
Pay: 8G / 10G / 12G / 14G / 17G
Required Stats: Stamina / Constitution, Cooking
Stress: +2 / day
Stat Changes:
- Cooking +
- Combat Skill -
Your daughter works at a nearby Restaurant as a waitress. The Restaurant pays a decent wage, and is a good early job if you started off doing Housework with your daughter. In the long run this place is a bad choice for warriors, as it will quickly deplete your Combat Skill. Once your daughter gets older you'll probably stop working here.
Lumberjack
Unlocked: Age 11
Pay: 12G / 15G / 18G / 21G / 25G
Required Stats: Stamina / Constitution, Strength
Stress: +4 / day
Stat Changes:
- Strength +
- Refinement -
Your daughter helps fell trees in a nearby forest. Lumberjack is an excellent job for warriors, as it takes advantage of their high Stamina / Constitution and Strength, as well as giving some Strength back. You'll want to drop this job immediately if you're aiming for Refinement, however, as it saps that stat like crazy. Your daughter will build up Stress very quickly at this job, so make sure you give her lots of Free Time, as well as some occasional spending money.
Hairdresser
Unlocked: Age 11
Pay: 20G / 24G / 29G / 35G / 42G
Required Stats: Stamina / Constitution, Sensitivity, Art
Stress: +3 / day
Stat Changes:
- Sensitivity +
- Strength -
Your daughter works at the local salon as a Hairdresser. This is a great early-game job for building up gold, though you'll need to invest in a few Painting or Dance classes and build up your Art stat before you see any success. The Sensitivity buildup is useful - just make sure your daughter doesn't get too Sensitive, or she may randomly run off. As long as Sensitivity is not her highest stat, you'll be fine.
Plasterer
Unlocked: Age 12
Pay: 18G / 21G / 25G / 31G / 38G
Required Stats: Stamina / Constitution, Art
Stress: +3 / day
Stat Changes:
- Constitution +
- Charisma -
Your daughter works as a Plasterer on a construction site. This is a rare physical task that also requires Art, making it a decent choice if you want to segue away from Hairdresser. The big boost to Constitution is a nice bonus for fighters. Stay away from this job if you want to do anything involving Charisma, however, as it saps that stat.
Hunter
Unlocked: Age 12
Pay: 8G / 10G / 12G / 14G / 17G
Required Stats: Stamina / Constitution, Intelligence
Stress: +3 / day
Stat Changes:
- Constitution +
- Combat Skill +
- Sin +
- Refinement -
Your daughter assists a local hunter in catching prey. Hunter is a weird job with low pay and not a ton of upsides. The one big boost is Combat Skill, but you can learn that cheaply from Fencing or Kung-fu classes. The hit to Refinement makes this a job to avoid if you want your daughter to make her way into high society.
In addition to affecting the stats above, Hunting decreases your daughter's Maternal Instinct, a hidden stat. This only affects some dialogue when you reach the end of the game.
Gravekeeper
Unlocked: Age 13
Pay: 8G / 10G / 12G / 14G / 17G
Required Stats: Stamina / Constitution, Faith
Stress: +5 / day
Stat Changes:
- Sensitivity +
- Magical Defense +
- Charisma -
Your daughter works at a local graveyard, ensuring that the graves are not disturbed. A low-paying job that will quickly over-Stress your daughter, Gravekeeper is handy for raising Sensitivity and Magical Defense. The first can be raised elsewhere with less effort, however, and the latter doesn't come in handy all that often. The hit to Charisma kills Gravekeeper as a job prospect under most conditions...
... though if your daughter is a warrior, this is a potentially lucrative job regardless. If you come here with a high Fighting Reputation (likely 200+) there's a high chance that you'll run into a Skeleton Knight. If you can defeat it you'll receive a one-time reward of 2,539 gold.
Tutor
Unlocked: Age 14
Pay: 20G / 24G / 29G / 35G / 42G
Required Stats: Stamina / Constitution, Intelligence
Stress: +7 / day
Stat Changes:
- Morality +
- Charisma -
Your daughter works as a Tutor for wealthy students. Despite the high pay and Morality boost this is not a great job to take, as your daughter will absolutely require paid Free Time to recover from the Stress buildup. Losing Charisma this late in to the game usually isn't recommended, either, given the higher emphasis on social climbing in the latter half of Princess Maker 2.
In addition to affecting the stats listed above, Tutor also increases your daughter's Maternal Instinct, a hidden stat. This will only affect some dialogue with her patron god when you reach the end of the game.
Bar
Unlocked: Age 14
Pay: 12G / 15G / 18G / 21G / 25G
Required Stats: Stamina / Constitution, Charisma
Stress: +5 / day
Stat Changes:
- Cooking +
- Conversation +
- Intelligence -
Your daughter helps with the waitressing at a local Bar. The high Stress buildup and need for Charisma make this a challenging job to manage, though this is the only way to raise the Conversation stat. If you want your daughter to gossip with the Court Jester, or just boost her Social Reputation in general, you'll have to send her to the Bar at some point. The Intelligence drop hurts badly if you rely on magic for combat, so level these losses out with some classes.
Illegal Bar
Unlocked: Age 15
Pay: 45G / 54G / 64G / 777G / 95G
Required Stats: Stamina / Constitution, Charisma
Stress: +12 / day
Stat Changes:
- Charisma +
- Sin +
- Faith -
- Morality -
- Temperament -
Your daughter helps entertain the guests at an Illegal Bar. The highest-paying job of the lot, the Illegal Bar also has a ton of downsides. Your daughter's Stress will go through the roof, and the dips in her Faith and Morality will ensure that she quickly becomes Delinquent. The Illegal Bar is good for quick money, as well as a boost to Charisma, but you're asking for trouble if you send your daughter here on a regular basis.
In addition to affecting the stats listed above, having your daughter work at the Illegal Bar will negatively affect her relationship with her father. Avoid the Illegal Bar if you want them to maintain a strong bond.
Cabaret
Unlocked: Age 16
Pay: 35G / 42G / 50G / 60G / 70G
Required Stats: Stamina / Constitution, Charisma, Art
Stress: +8 / day
Stat Changes:
- Charisma +
- Sin +
- Refinement -
- Intelligence -
- Temperament -
Your daughter works at a local Cabaret, either serving drinks to the patrons or dancing on the stage. The Cabaret is more or less a lower-impact version of the Sleazy Bar, with less pay but fewer downsides. You'll still need to do some repair work after sending your daughter here, assuming you want her to cooperate. Make sure your daughter gets lots of Free Time to dispel the Stress buildup.
